The LLC department offers a collection of specific materials for youth and adults working toward literacy and specific educational goals. LLC’s skill-building materials are available for loan or on-site use and include:
- Books and study guides for math, writing, the high school equivalency test, Armed Forces Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB), Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), citizenship, English language literacy, and a collection of high-interest fiction and nonfiction books for coaching young readers in K – 5th grade;
- Adult basic literacy materials, including a collection of fiction and adapted books for adult new readers Tutor training materials.
The VCPL’s online offerings for continuing education and technology skills include instructor-led courses through LinkedIn Learning. The Lifelong Learning Center has computers available for extended time periods for educational purposes.
ESL at VCPL
The VCPL’s Lifelong Learning Center offers a free English as a Second Language (ESL) conversational program. The VCPL ESL service is available for Vigo County’s adult, pre-college level English language learners, who are residents and long-term visitors.
Adult ESL Learners
The Women’s Conversation Group, a large group class, meets every Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. It is a multi-leveled group. Instruction is provided by a qualified staff member. Some literacy-focused topics include: everyday conversation, health, technology, popular culture, the environment, social justice issues, cross- cultural exchange, and visual arts, and navigating local healthcare and school systems. Pre-registration is not required, but is restricted to women only, due to cultural reasons.
The Lifelong Learning Center loans books and CDs for improving English language skills. ESL learners are encouraged to use the library’s free program, LinkedIn Learning, which offers courses in English grammar and writing to prepare for college entry and work.
ELL at VCSC
The Vigo County School Corporation Adult Education Department offers ELL (English Language Learners) classes at no cost to participants. For more information and to register for a class, please call 812.462.4070.
Adult Education Classes
In partnership with the Vigo County School Corporation, the VCPL Lifelong Learning Center (LLC) is a site for High School Equivalency, English as a Second Language (ESL) and Life Skill classes. LLC provides computer access and technology training for High School Equivalency students, as well as a collection of materials for High School Equivalency students or independent learners. This Library location also provides a central location, ample parking, handicapped accessibility, and proximity to public transportation.

Registration and a scheduled orientation are required prior to attending the GED and Life Skills classes. Call LLC at 812.232.1117 or the Adult Education office at 812.462.4070 for more information. The Adult Education office will take registration calls.
